CAR ACCIDENT LAWYER
Two people were killed after a two-car crash south of Brownsville on Minnesota Highway 26 yesterday. A 2005 Chevrolet Classic was traveling northbound on Highway 26 and a 2003 Infiniti G35 was traveling southbound on Highway 26. The cars collided in the northbound lane, according to the Minnesota State Patrol crash report. The Houston County Sheriff’s Office, New Albin Fire Department and Tri State Ambulance also responded.
A 60-year-old man from Brownsville was driving the Chevrolet. Meanwhile, a 42-year-old man from La Crosse, Wisconsin was driving the Infinity. Unfortunately, both were killed in the crash. Neither driver was wearing his seat belt at the time of the crash.
Our car accident lawyers have handled many cases where someone wasn’t wearing a seatbelt. In addition, their cars did not have an airbag. This combination of factors often results in serious injury or death. A car accident lawyer is often asked if not wearing a seatbelt defeats a claim for compensation. Fortunately, it does not in Minnesota. Minnesota’s seatbelt law prohibits discussion of seatbelt use at trial. Of course, there is good reason for this law. Driver’s need to be encouraged to drive carefully and pay attention. The mistake of not wearing a seatbelt does not excuse inattentive driving that causes a crash. A lawyer will still hold the negligent driver responsible.
