BEMIDJI — A 76-year-old Pennington, Minn., man died Wednesday morning in a two-vehicle head-on collision. The car accident was in the 5100 block of Bemidji Avenue. In addition, the crash also left two others injured. Bemidji Police Officers and Beltrami County Deputies were dispatched at approximately 5:20 a.m., according to a release from the Bemidji Police Department. When they arrived, responders discovered two vehicles with significant damage and three people injured.
The initial investigation suggests a 32-year-old man was driving on southbound on Bemidji Avenue. Unfortunately, his vehicle crossed the centerline and collided with the northbound 2004 Honda Odyssey. There has been no suggestion of alcohol or foul play. Although, many cases in Bemidji do involve a drunk driver. Most likely, this is another case of driver distraction. Although, given the time, fatigue could have been a factor.
BEMIDJI CAR CRASH EMERGENCY SERVICES
The Bemidji Fire Department needed the jaws-of-life to remove people from both vehicles. In addition, the Bemidji Fire Department and the Bemidji Ambulance Service treated the injured at the scene. They were then transported to Sanford Hospital. Sadly, after being transported from the scene, the older man was pronounced dead. A passenger in the Impala was identified as a 23-year-old woman from Bemidji. Unfortunately, this tragic car crash will forever change the lives of the people involved and their families.
