The preliminary investigation suggests a 32-year-old man was operating a 2006 Chevrolet Impala southbound on Bemidji Avenue. Unfortunately, his vehicle crossed the centerline and collided with a northbound 2004 Honda Odyssey driven by the 76-year-old man. There has been no suggestion of alcohol or foul play. Most likely, this is another case of driver distraction. Although, given the time, fatigue could have been a factor.

The Bemidji Fire Department used the jaws-of-life to extricate individuals from both vehicles. In addition, the Bemidji Fire Department and the Bemidji Ambulance Service treated the injured at the scene. They were then transported to Sanford Hospital. Sadly, after being transported from the scene, the 76-year-old male was pronounced dead at Sanford Hospital. A passenger in the Chevrolet Impala was identified as a 23-year-old woman from Bemidji. Unfortunately, this tragic car crash will forever change the lives of the people involved and their families.
