Answer: Usually yes. The law in Minnesota is clear. A dog owner is responsible for ANY injury caused by the dog, even if their dog injures the person by accident.
347.22 DAMAGES, OWNER LIABLE.
If a dog, without provocation, attacks or injures any person who is acting peaceably in any place where the person may lawfully be, the owner of the dog is liable in damages. The term “owner” includes any person harboring or keeping a dog. However, the owner shall be primarily liable. The term “dog” includes both male and female of the canine species. In other words, the dog doesn’t have to bite you. The owner is responsible even if their dog accidentally injures you.
