Does that mean other people can see the amount of your injury settlement? Fortunately, there are ways to keep the details of a settlement, including the amount, private. First, many settlements are done privately with no court involvement. In those cases, nothing is filed so other people cannot easily get the information. However, there are also many cases that do go through the court system. For example, all wrongful death cases and all cases involving children must get court approval. In addition, once an actual lawsuit is started, paperwork is filed with the court until conclusion of the case. In those cases, court records can be accessed online.
