MN CAR ACCIDENT LAWYER – OTHER DRIVER LOOKING AT PHONE CAUSED HEAD ON CRASH
In the last year, each auto accident lawyer in our office has had several serious cases of a head-on collision where a driver was texting or looking at their phone and crossed over the center line, hitting an oncoming car. These are terrible crashes, producing very bad and in some cases catastrophic injury. Despite improved safety features in the cars, our attorneys have seen more head on crash cases in Minnesota causing worse injuries than ever. One head on car crash a lawyer in our office recently worked on involved a woman whose steering column was pushed into her leg, crushing two bones.
In the video below, obtained by the MN state patrol, a dashcam equipped car was able to record an oncoming car that crossed the dividing line and then barreled down the center of the wrong lane in what looks like an attempt to teach both drivers and any of their passengers what happens after you die. The “suspected distracted driver” apparently made it all the way to the rumble strip on his/her left side before correcting back into the proper lane. Fortunately, the driver of the dashcam-enabled car was not just focused but skilled, smoothly swerving onto the shoulder for a couple harrowing seconds to avoid a head on collision. When a car accident lawyer in our MN office gets a head on collision case, we wish we could get video like this showing how terrible the other driver was driving and how distracted he or she was because of texting while driving or looking at their phone.
The Minnesota Department of Public Safety says distracted driving factors into twenty five percent of Minnesota vehicle crashes, and kills an estimated 70 people a year. That number might be a bit lower this year thanks to some heads-up driving from whoever sent this video into the State Patrol. Watch the video. But NOT if you’re driving.
