A prominent personal injury lawyer made the news this weekend for a bad reason. He was apparently driving drunk, hit a road worker and then left the scene.

At this point, the details are still not known. In most such cases, the driver claims he didn’t know he hit someone. While this may be true in some instances, our car accident lawyers handle many cases where the drunk intentionally tried to flee the scene after causing a crash.

According to the Star Tribune:

A trooper, responding to the crash report, discovered the road worker down in a ditch. The worker, wearing a high-visibility vest, was walking on the dirt portion of the interstate when he was struck. The trooper saw tire tracks in the dirt, indicating that the driver got back on the road and continued north. A piece from the driver’s vehicle left at the scene was a match.

A witness traveling in the same direction reported seeing the vehicle using the shoulder to pass slower traffic. Law enforcement stopped the driver on I-35 near Moose Lake, detecting the smell of alcohol. The driver claimed to have taken sleeping pills and had three glasses of wine the previous day. A preliminary breath test measured his blood alcohol content at 0.143%. This is more than 1 1â„2times the legal limit for driving in Minnesota.
