HIT BY GARBAGE TRUCK – LAWYERS

A teenager from Red Wing, Minn. was killed Thursday in a head-on crash. Sadly, he had graduated from high school just two weeks ago. His car was hit by a garbage truck in Goodhue County.

The driver of the car was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. This occurred 2 miles southeast of Red Wing, the Goodhue County Sheriff’s Office said. He was heading west when his vehicle collided with an eastbound Waste Management garbage truck. The driver of the garbage truck was treated for minor injuries at the scene.

The driver of the car had graduated with distinction June 4 from Red Wing High School. He was a member of the National Honor Society. In addition, he was on the Student Council, the school’s swim team and its ultimate Frisbee club. He even participated on a relay team at the Minnesota State High School State swimming meet. This is obviously a tragic loss to the community.

In addition to the sheriff, the Minnesota State Patrol came to this accident scene to further investigate the crash. In most cases, the State Patrol conducts an accident reconstruction to determine if the garbage truck driver or the car was at fault. Usually, they will examine the garbage truck to make sure it was fully functional and compliant with all regulations. This is part of the protocol with commercial vehicles. The reason, of course, is that commercial vehicles cause more serious damage because of their size and weight. In addition, they often cut corners to focus on profit.
