CHILD HIT BY CAR WHILE CROSSING STREET TO GET ON SCHOOL BUS
Valley News reported today this tragic story about a 7-year old boy. He was struck and killed by a vehicle while crossing a highway. The child was just trying to get on a school bus near Thief River Falls when he was hit by the car. Our car accident lawyers represent the family in cases like this.
The victim was a second grader at Challenger Elementary School in Thief River Falls MN. Actually, it happened on Highway 59, seven miles south of Thief River Falls. The school bus was just rolling to a stop. As the child ran across the road to the school bus, he was hit by a van going northbound. The bus stops right in front of the child’s house. However, for some reason, the child had gone across the street and had to run back to the bus.
The Minnesota State Patrol is still investigating this terrible car accident. Meanwhile, the child’s family, teachers and friends at Challenger Elementary School have to deal with the tragic loss of a bright 7-year-old boy. The Patrol says it’s not known yet whether the bus‘s stop arm and flashing lights were on when the child was hit by the car. No charges have been filed at this time.
This tragic case was most likely preventable. The Department of Public Transportation has good information on bus stop safety.
